Checking Out Your New Tenant With Landlord Background Checks
People with extra space on their properties make money by renting it out to someone, either for residential or commercial purposes. Usually, landlords prefer letting out to people they know. However, that may not always be possible.
There are several problems a tenant can cause such as not paying the rent properly, spoiling the house, causing disturbance to the neighbors, bringing unwanted elements at home, and many others.
There is always the possibility that the person who rents your place is a criminal, such as a sex-offender, a thief, or even a murderer.
There are background checks that can be conducted by the landlord. And of course, there are certain rules the landlord has to abide by and ask the tenant to sign on a form giving him permission to conduct the background checks.
Based on whatever information is provided by the tenant, there are agencies that can help obtain all the reports for the landlord for a fee. These agencies will first do the employment verification, as well as tenant verification and others, on the person.
After these are done, the agency will do some more background checks, such as checking the social security number, sex-offender registries, criminal records, and motor vehicle records among many others.
If the landlord wishes to have more background checks done on the person, they may also do a credit history check to see if there are any bad debts, because that may affect the ability of the person to pay the rent properly.
